A doll in a sailor suit…a girl with a bad attitude…
When Mario takes a Key West vacation with his alcoholic parents, he finds himself alone and unsupervised on the paradise island with a dark history. A chance visit to a local museum introduces him to five high school girls who catch his interest, but it is Ashley who challenges him with a dare to visit the museum’s creepy and famous resident, Robert the Doll.
Wearing his little sailor suit, Robert sits on a chair in the second floor of the museum—until he moves on his own, sometimes staring out the museum window. Robert has powers. Bad things happen when Robert decides to play. And Robert wants to play with Mario and Ashley.
The two teens learn the hard way that mocking Robert is a bad idea. A very bad idea.
“…this spellbinding tale, offering eloquent evidence that Southern storytelling is indeed a very special art form.” Marilyn Stacio, The New York Times on THE DARKLING
“A writer of exceptional talent.” --Milwaukee Journal on THEM BONES

Robert the Doll edition by Carolyn Haines Cissy Hartley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Oh I did not like Robert!!! Beware...high creep alert! Short but intense!
Carolyn Haines does creepy as well as she does any other story. It is believable and not predictable. Another great read from Carolyn Haines.
SUCH a delightfully creepy story! I think I've read nearly all of Carolyn Haines' books AND short stories, and no one does subtle horror like she does.
Carolyn Haines does it again. Eerie, well-written short story about a cute little doll in a pirate suit. It doesn't take long for things to go wrong, very wrong. Glad I don't have any dolls at my house!
I enjoy the possessed doll genre, so Robert the Doll was right up my alley. It was very entertaining, creepy, and a good length. Also, I'm very proud to support a fellow Mississippian!
Creepy! Scary! Chilling! A teenager goes on vacation with his alcoholic parents to beautiful Key West and he meets a sinister doll named Robert. What could go wrong? A lot. Great scary tale to tell at your next campfire!
If you are a fan of Carolyn Haines and creepy stories, this is for you!
A doll that has powers. Can Robert, a doll really move around, change expression?
A short story that kept me turning the pages as I got pulled in giving me the creeps!
